Stanley got caught for stealing really expensive shoes. He didn’t actually steal them, they just fell out of the sky, but he got caught anyway. He had to choose between jail or Camp Green Lake, so he chose Camp Green Lake. Once he arrived at camp, he had to dig holes every day. But why? Stanley has to go on an unexpected adventure to figure out why he and the other kids are digging holes.
Louis Sachar’s book, Holes, was the winner of the Newbery Medal and National Book Award. I thought the book had a mysterious problem they had to solve which goes a long way back when Camp Green Lake had water. My favorite part is when he steals the water truck and drives into a hole. Stanley ends up running for it as he doesn’t want to dig holes anymore.
I enjoyed this book and is one you definitely should read. I thought it was funny that the book had only 50 chapters in 233 pages.
