Harry Potter

Book 1: The Philosopher’s Stone

Harry PotterHarry has to live with his muggle parents who are downright terrible. But then letters start arriving by owls addressed to Harry. His parents don’t let him read them as more and more letters continue showing up. Finally, Hagrid comes and takes Harry to a real magic school. He and his friends, Ron and Hermione, soon figure out that there’s an object that is hidden and somebody’s trying to steal it. Will he get there in time or will the evil person get there first?

This book has humor (lots from Ron), good magic, and awesome battles. I like this book because it’s very different from all the other books that I’ve read. It’s got cool games (like Quidditch), and funny prank shops. My favorite part is when Harry, Ron, and Hermione were looking for the stone. They had to go through obstacles to get there. Another one of my favorite parts is when Harry got selected into the Gryffindor house. There are four different houses, Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. When you come to Hogwarts, which is the magic school, you get selected into a house that fits you best or one of your parents was in that house.

This book is the first of a seven book series.

The Inheritance Cycle

Book 1: Eragon

EragonEragon finds a cool blue stone in the forest and wonders if he can sell it. But a few days later it hatches into a dragon. He must care for his dragon, and go on a quest with the storyteller Brom to defeat the Razac and join the Varden. But the empire wants him at his side. Can he make it to the Varden alive or will the Razac stop him in his tracks?

I thought this book had lots of great adventures, exciting battles, and lots of action overall. One of my favourite parts is when they were in the town Gil’ead. After they got captured, they had to escape but a Shade, somebody controlled by evil spirits, and one of the Empire’s armies was trying to stop them. I also liked when Eragon and Brom had an intense battle with three Urgals in an abandoned city.

If you like books with long adventures, then this is the book for you. This is the best mythical creature story I’ve read and I think Christopher Paolilni did a great job with this book. This book is the first out of four in the series.

Percy Jackson And The Olympians

Book 1: The Lightning Thief

Percy Jackson And The OlympiansIn the first book of the series, Percy Jackson figures out he’s not a normal kid, he’s a demigod. Now he has to go on a quest with Annabeth and Grover to get Zeus’ lightning bolt back. Will he make it back alive?

Percy, Anabeth, and Grover set out together to get the lightning bolt but Zeus thinks Percy has stolen it. Percy has only 10 days to get it back but there is lots to overcome, such as hideous monsters, angry gods, and finding out who his father is.

I thought the book had lots of action with fierce battles that Percy faced against monsters. One of my favourite battles was when Percy was fighting Ares. This is a real test for Percy because Ares is the God of War and best fighter there is and this made the battle really tense. Percy is really funny and there’s lots of jokes throughout the book, making the book very entertaining.

I think this is one of my personal favourites and one of Rick Riordan’s best books. This is book one of a five book series and it got me into to reading more books by Rick Riordan and other authours.
